During the past 20 years, on the strength of poll-topping CD's (Bounce, 2003; Let’s Get Lost, 2001) and award-winning Hollywood film scores for directors including Spike Lee, Blanchard has established himself among the most influential jazz composers and players of his generation. Having recently signed with Blue Note, he joins a jazz legacy that has shaped the contours of modern jazz today, stretching back to 1939 and including formative albums by one of Blanchard's mentors, the legendary drummer/bandleader Art Blakey. In addition to composing scores for films like Malcolm X, Get On The Bus, Bamboozled, Clockers, and Crooklyn, and serving as the Artistic Director of the famed Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Performance at University of Southern California, Blanchard is also an exciting performer, putting his own stamp and style on his work, as well as the work of others. A fabulous night of jazz awaits in Staller's Recital Hall.
