He completely charmed the Staller audience when he first appeared on our stage in the 2000-2001 season playing cool, fast-paced pop-jazz that wears a big grin on its face. John Pizzarelli will be back with his trio, in what Stephen Holden of the New York Times called “the best show yet.” The trio will be joined this year by John’s wife, the singer Jessica Molaskey, whose buoyant singing has made her a Broadway star in her own right, and by his father, Bucky, a jazz guitar legend.
Mr. Pizzarelli is a musical prankster and mimic whose cool, offhand style echoes the young Nat King Cole. The jokes and references that he weaves into his music and the interplay with his trio embody his view of music making as intellectual and aesthetic play, like star athletes happily “kicking the ball around.” Join us for a happy evening of jazz, pop and Broadway.
