Don’t miss this chance to see a major jazz star in his first visit to Staller Center. Alto sax man David Sanborn reigns supreme as an elegant, versatile improviser. A David Sanborn concert promises to deliver distinctive, smooth jazz, influenced by rhythm and blues.
A Grammy award-winning solo artist with a great group of sidemen, Sanborn began his career recording with the Paul Butterfield Band, playing Woodstock with them, and touring with many music notables: Stevie Wonder, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, The Brecker Brothers and Gil Evans and later on, Eric Clapton. His albums include the 2003 timeagain. “Harlem Nocturne,” “Sugar,” “Tequila,” and “Isn’t She Lovely” are among the songs clothed in Sanborn's distinctive, easy-on-the-ears style. Sanborn has no problem bringing something fresh and personal to familiar melodies. “I grew up listening to music with an open mind and drawing on different elements, which is what I'm continuing to do... Whether I'm playing Joni Mitchell or Stanley Turrentine, the attitude I've always had is: if it’s good, it’s good.”
