Maria Schneider leads her Jazz Orchestra, a seventeen-member group playing her beautiful compositions,
which combine jazz with classical and world-music influences. Schneider has been
commissioned to write for Jazz at Lincoln Center (Bulería, Soleá y Rumba), Carnegie Hall Jazz
Orchestra (El Viento), and Monterey Jazz Festival (Scenes from Childhood) among others. She
received a Doris Duke award to compose a dance work (Dissolution) in collaboration with the
Pilobolus dance group.
Her album Concert in the Garden won a Grammy in 2005 and was cited as the Best Album of 2004
by the Village Voice. Come experience why it’s said that Schneider brings a truly novel approach to
big jazz band composition for the new century.
