Moscow Festival Ballet

Swan Lake is the ballet that created the image so many have of ballet today. In 1875
Tchaikovsky was commissioned to compose the score for a ballet that would be called Swan
Lake. A full twenty years of unsuccessful versions would be performed and the composer
would die in 1893 before the Swan Lake that we know, the Petipa/Ivanov choreography with
the glorious Tchaikovsky music, would finally have its debut in 1895.
