Iceland Dance Company
Friday, November 9, 2007
at 8:00 pm
Main Stage - $37
Staller Center is happy to present this young exciting company on their first United States tour. The Iceland Dance Company was founded in 1973 by the National Theatre of Iceland and continues to be the national dance company of this proud country. Since 1996 the company, under the artistic direction of Katrin Hall, has focused on an exclusively modern and contemporary repertoire, commissioning and nurturing Icelandic choreographers as well as those from Scandinavia and Europe.
The company consists of twelve dancers, all sharing a background in classical training but retaining a pronounced individuality. Many renowned choreographers, including Jiri Kylian, have created new works for the company. In addition, Iceland Dance maintains a strong tie to the vibrant music scene in Iceland, commissioning composers and ensembles to create new music for the company.
There will be a free pre-performance talk at 7:00 pm in the Recital Hall by company members before the performance.
“Versatile, daring and explosive, the Iceland Dance Company is a treat for the senses and a challenge for your intellect.” - The Varsity
