The big band performs a vast repertory of rare historic compositions and arrangements by Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Fletcher Henderson, Thelonious Monk, Mary Lou Williams, Benny Goodman, Charles Mingus and many others.
In addition the band regularly premieres works commissioned from a variety of composers, including Benny Carter, Wayne Shorter, Joe Lovano and Christian McBride as well as works from current and former Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra members.
In their statement of mission and purpose the band states: “We bring people together for a simple purpose: to have a profoundly good time!” Staller Center is proud to open the Main Stage 2007-2008 Season with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. Please join us for a profoundly good time!
