(July 19 through July 29, 2000)

The Staller Center for the Arts proudly presents the 2000 STONY BROOK FILM FESTIVAL. Forty-seven of the most stimulating, innovative and powerful films from the United States and abroad will run July 19 - 29. New Independent feature and short films will be making World, U.S. or New York premieres and many of their directors will be on hand to introduce their films. Learn more at our filmmaker panel on July 22, led by Newsday Film Critic John Anderson and featuring directors, producers, actors and distributors - a bonus for all festival pass holders, preceded by a pass-holder only pre-panel reception.

Whether your tastes are for studio blockbusters like TOPSY TURVY, THE CIDER HOUSE RULES and ALL ABOUT MY MOTHER (Oscar winning Best Foriegn Film), or Independent new films (where your votes help determine winning films at the festival), there is plenty of entertainment for everyone.

Additionally the festival is delighted to screen five Special Premiere Films including Melissa Painter's WILDFLOWERS, for Opening Night; Jean Philippe Toussaint's THE ICE RINK for Closing Night; and three Spotlight films - Britt Allcroft's THOMAS AND THE MAGIC RAILROAD, Robert Greenwald's STEAL THIS MOVIE and Nicholas Kendall's MR. RICE'S SECRET. Join some of the directors, cast and crew of these films and enjoy delightful and provocative short films that will once again precede many feature films listed in this schedule.

Your low priced Festival Pass includes all 47 films and the filmmaker panel and reception on July 22. For a nominal charge you can add both the Opening Night Party and the Closing Night Awards Reception where you can mingle with the filmmakers who made this year so special. Passes and party/reception tickets are limited, so purchase them early and let us once again take you on an unforgettable journey into the art of film.
